I don't completely understand it, but my elio got a certificate from the shaman that I brought to the master, I then went back to the shaman and got the item I needed. In fact you do not need to finish pandawushu follower to continu with the quest.

The only thing you might need help for that the wiki doesn't cover is the moon fight but persona already covered that. The quests for it are already detailed on wiki so just go there for any positions.
